Tucked away in Amenia, New York is Cascade Mountain Winery. I had a bottle of their Private Reserve Red hanging around that I thought needed to be opened. The bottle didn’t have a vintage date on it, so we’ll have to go with N/V.
The nose on the wine was candied with apple and cherry. There was some blackberry, raspberry and notes of licorice and oak as well. Lots going on in the nose.
The palate was filled with raspberry and hints of coffee on the finish. For a red, I thought it was a bit thin in texture.
The wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and French Hybrids. I tried to find out which hybrids, but I wasn’t successful. I’m leaning towards Frontenac or DeChaunac or both.
