If you find yourself in Italy discovering Brunello di Montalcino with Rebecca at Tuscan Wine Tours for the day.
You will discover the origins and the evolution of the Brunello wine, visiting a wonderful winery. Please note that with departure from Florence, the trip to Montalcino takes about 2 hrs. In fact, for the private tours to Montalcino, we recommend that you stay in Siena or thereabouts just to avoid spending so much time in the car.
During our drive to Montalcino you will be introduced to the region of Montalcino, its history and its wine designations.
Our first stop will be at a small winery and top producer of Brunello di Montalcino. We’ll be shown around by the wine maker, go through the fields (weather permitting), see the aging cellars, and finally do a tasting together.
In a nearby valley we find the most important piece of Romanesque architecture in Tuscany, the Abbey of Sant’Antimo (12th Century).
It is now time for a good Tuscan lunch in the country side. During lunch, we will see the premises of an old olive mill and we will talk about how good extra virgin olive oil is made.
We will make a stop in Montalcino to admire this town with its imposing Medieval Fortress and walk the winding streets stocked with wine shops and artisan products. If you are looking to buy vintage Brunellos or are wanting to taste more Brunellos of different producers, it is possible to do so in the Fortress Enoteca wine shop. Final stop in a famous Brunello winery for a tasting before heading back.
Return to accommodation at approx. 5/6 p.m.
