I never knew of Sparkling Pointe until last year when I was working in the back room of the Classic and they won best sparkling wine. Not that I got to taste it then, but I did make my way to their table at the NY Drinks NY event and made sure to taste the award winning bubbles.
Romance, magic and bubbles are what is behind Sparking Pointe. Tom and Cynthia Rosicki shared a bottle of Champagne on their first date and never stopped with the bubbles. As residents of the North Fork witnessing the growth of the region and wine, they wanted to be a part of it. They purchased their piece of land for the vineyard and new immediately that they were going to produce only sparkling wine.
If you are visiting the North Fork, Sparkling Pointe is a must stop for some great bubbles.
I tasted 4 of their selections including the winner at the Classic. I’ll give you a short review of all 4 beginning with the 2011 Brut which is 56% Chardonnay, 32% Pinot Noir and 12% Pinot Meunier. Soft aromas of apple and pear lead way to a nice toasty palate. It is dry and nice and crisp. SRP $29
The 2010 Blanc de Blancs made from 100% Chardonnay grapes spent 3 1/2 years on the lees. Full of citrus and brioche this sparkling wine had a very nice clean finish. SRP $42
2011 Topaz Imperial produced from 50% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier. Nice pink color with notes of fresh strawberries. Hints of breadiness and nice acidity. SRP $37
The bottle that got the title of the Best Sparkling Wine at the 2014 Classic…2005 Brut Seduction. It had a fantastic nose, small delicate bubbles with lots of red fruit and hints of bread baking. Definitely a wine to be seduced by. SRP $60
