It was the first day of Summer 8 years ago when Summer our Boykin Spaniel came into our lives. In honor of her anniversary we celebrated with this 2011 Chateau Grand Jean White Bordeaux
White Bordeaux is usually a blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc which are the predominate white grapes grown in Bordeaux. This wine is a blend of 70% Semillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc. The wine was fermentated at a lower temperature and maturing on the lees for 3 months. This gave it the nice rounded feeling you will feel on your palate.
The grapes for this wine come the Entre-Deux-Mers region where the vineyards are exposed to great sun and sit in clay and limestone soils.
The hayish yellow color of the wine give off nice aromas of pear and grapefruit. The palate is a little grassy with flavors of lemon, citrus, some melon and there’s a nice white spice on the finish. It’s a full bodied white wine that is nicely balanced with a soft rounded mouth feel.
Semillon is a white grape that does age quite nicely. This would be a good wine to buy a few bottles of and taste it throughout the next few years.
I purchased this wine for $9.99 at Invino and feel it’s a great value.
