“WOW, this is a Bad Ass Wine” ~ Paul Gioquindo

Those were the words out of Paul’s mouth when I poured him the 2008 Stephen & Walker Petite Sirah.

We stumbled across this winery on our last trip to California in 2010.  We were staying in Healdsburg and were walking down the main street admiring the area, looking for a place to eat dinner and came across the Stephen & Walker tasting room. Of course we stepped inside and this was a purchase from that detour.

The wine was wonderful.  Probably had a few years left in it.  Nose of cedar, tobacco and anise lead to a wonderful big cherry and dark fruit palate.  The palate was bursting with cherry, blackberry and black currants.  There is even some hints of chocolate. Soft tannins lead to a bust of blackberry on the finish.

Totally enjoyed this wine. Wish I had another bottle.
