I went all out the Hudson Valley way. I was preparing this wonderful Barbecued Baked Ziti (with Kiernan Farms ground beef)  and though I’d try a new wine, one that I wasn’t familiar with.  Magnanini 2010 Rosso Da Tavola.  Translation – a red table wine.

This is my first experience with any of Magnanini’s wines.  I first met Rick this September and his winery is located in Walkill, NY. He doesn’t have the traditional set up with a tasting room, his wine tasting comes complete with a six course dinner for $40.  Wine tasting is one hour prior to your meal.  They even have Italian themed dinners such as Gnocci Party, Polenta Party, Risotto/Porcini Party.  I’d say get your Italian on!

The 2010 Rosso Da Tavola is a hybrid blend of estate grown 60% DeChaunac and 40%Chancellor.    This wine had a beautiful bright garnet color.

Aromas of sweet strawberries and cherries with a slight hint of cinnamon filled the glass.  The wine had a very nice mouth feel with little if any tannins.  Flavors of sweet cherries, prunes rounding out to some earthy and mocha notes.  I found the wine a little on the sweet side.  Upon looking on their website I noticed it does have 1% residual sugar.

This wine is available only from Magnanini Winery or their website.

This wine did pair very well with my BBQ Ziti.  Here is the recipe:
1 box ziti cooked
1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion chopped
chopped parsley
1 cup milk
1cup barbecue sauce
4 oz shredded smoked mozzarella
8 oz shredded cheddar

Heat oven to 350.  Grease 13×9 pan.  Cook beef and onion until beef is brown and drain.  Mix beef with the remaining ingredients except 1/2 cup of cheddar.  Pour into pan and sprinkle wiht cheddar cheese and bake uncovered for 40 minutes.
